The Malaysian FA (FAM) president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has revealed one of the most overlooked reasons for the recent appointment of Nelo Vingada as Malaysia head coach.

According to Tunku Ismail, who is also known as TMJ by fans, the most obvious reason is the former Saudi Arabia and FC Seoul boss' vast experience.

"The reason that it is the best decision is his track record, CV and experience," said the Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) owner in a recording of an interview, published on the club's social media.

But according to him, one reason that is not apparent to many, which he cited to Malaysian football's long slumber, is the Portuguese trainer's ability to develop local coaches.

"Football in the country, along with its long-dormant football association, we are not yet a mature footballing country. We haven't made the correct decisions for a very long time.

"For now, in hiring the national team head coach, he needs to not only lead the national team and the players, but we also need him to develop local coaches.

"And that is why I believe that Nelo Vingada is the right choice," explained the Johor Crown Prince.
