VIDEO: Fabregas did claim two assists against Middlesbrough despite being trolled by TV presenter

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas made history on Monday night, although he had his evening spoilt by a television presenter.

Genius Fabregas inspires Chelsea

The Spaniard believed he claimed two assists against Middlesbrough as he first lofted the ball into Diego Costa's path to make it 1-0 before setting up Nemanja Matic for his side's third.

As a result, Fabregas became the first player to record 10 assists or more in six different Premier League seasons.

There was, however, confusion over Fabregas's role in Costa's opener, with the ball having touched Middlesbrough defender Fabio on its way through to the striker.

And, speaking to Fabregas after the game, the Sky Sports presenter was quick to correct the former Barcelona star after he insisted that he was on 11 assists for the season.

In a further twist, though, it was confirmed on Tuesday that Fabregas had in fact been credited with the assist, with Fabio's intervention doing little to change the course of the pass that was heading for Costa.

The Blues would go on to win the game by a comfortable 3-0 scoreline, relegating Middlesbrough to the Championship and ensuring Antonio Conte's side need just three more points to win the title.
