‘The best player in the Bundesliga’ - Klopp on why Liverpool signed Naby Keita

Jurgen Klopp has stated that Naby Keita’s football skills which ranked him as ‘the best in the Bundesliga’ made Liverpool secure his service from RB Leipzig.

The midfielder officially teamed up with the Reds on June 30 from German Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig having agreed to join the side last summer, after they triggered his release clause of £48 million.

In their pre-season friendlies against Chester and Tranmere Rovers, the 23-year-old showed glimpses of what he has in store for the Anfield giants, helping them secure victories in the encounters.

“Naby was two years ago, together with maybe Thiago Alcantara of Bayern, for sure the best player in the Bundesliga by far," Klopp was quoted as saying on Echo.

"It was unbelievable how he played and then we wanted to get him in, but Leipzig didn’t think that was the best idea in the world so they kept him.

"And then last season he was still good. Not as good as the year before but still good. He is young, he is full of football skills, very stable, very good in small spaces, endurance-wise fantastic, quick, good finishes, good runs in the box.

“So that’s a package that’s really interesting and that’s why we thought we should take him."

Liverpool take on Bury in their next pre-season game on Saturday and Keita will be hoping to continue the eye-catching performance.
