Stoke City sign Benik Afobe from Wolverhampton Wanderers

Stoke City have completed the signing of Benik Afobe in a surprise loan move from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Afobe only rejoined Wolves permanently at the start of the month after spending half of the 2017-18 on loan from Bournemouth to help the Molineux Stadium outfit to the English Championship title, thus, gaining promotion to the Premier League.

The newly-promoted side's acquisition of Mexico international Raul Jiminez from Benfica eased their decision to part ways with the striker for the second time, who joins Stoke on a six-month deal.

The deal is expected to be made permanent in January with £12.5 million [$17m] the reported amount for the Arsenal graduate, set to help Gary Rowett's side achieve their aim of an immediate return to the top-flight.

“If there’s one signing you want to make to get you out of the Championship Benik is that kind of player," coach Rowett said of the striker's purchase.

The Congo DR marksman joins Nigeria international Oghenekaro Etebo as another African recruit at the bet365 Stadium, with Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Ndiaye Badou on Rowett's books.
