Socceroos player ratings: Rogic, Mooy continue to shine

Australia endured a frustrating night but ultimately got a 2-1 win against Thailand in their final World Cup qualifier at AAMI Park in Melboune on Tuesday.

The Socceroos hit the woodwork three times and fired in an extraordinary 45 shots on the Thai goal, with only Mathew Leckie's late winner saving their blushes after Pokklaw Anan cancelled out Tomi Juric's opener.

The narrow victory and Saudi Arabia's subsequent 1-0 win over Japan means the green-and-gold will be forced down the World Cup qualification playoff route.

How did the Australian players rate in the performance?

Mat Ryan - 4: Didn't have much to do but was shaky with his distribution all night. Wasn't at fault for the goal.

Bailey Wright - 6: Was yellow carded in the first half. Thailand attempted to isolate him against Chanathip Songkrasin but he did well. Was substituted before the goal.

Trent Sainsbury - 3: Uncharacteristically gave the ball away on a few occasions and should have been sent off for bringing down Teerasil Dangda.

Milos Degenek - 6: Solid but unspectacular performance. Made a few crucial challenges and interceptions.

Alex Gersbach - 5: Lacked confidence getting forward in wide areas but grew into the match.

Mark Milligan - 7: Buzzed around midfield putting in his usual shift.

Aaron Mooy - 8: Delivered the cross for Juric's goal. Worked tirelessly and linked well with Rogic. Unlucky not to open the scoring with a shot that clipped the outside of the post.

Mathew Leckie - 8: Scored the winning goal but too often gave the ball away or crossed poorly in attacking situations.

Tom Rogic - 9: Was absolutely superb. Did everything but score or set up a goal. Was a constant thorn in the Thais side with his movement, dribbling and ability to turn defenders.

Tim Cahill - 4: Snatched at a few chances and didn't really have much influence.

Tomi Juric - 8: Scored the opening goal but blasted several good opportunities over the bar.

SUBSTITUTES

Robbie Kruse - 7: Had an impact on the match with his pace unsettling the Thai defence.

James Troisi - 5: Got on the ball a fair bit but failed to create anything of note.

Jamie MacLaren - 5: Didn't have much impact.
