Janik Haberer put the hosts in the 51st minute after placing his penalty to the back of the net.

In the 77th minute, Hertha earned their penalty after Arne Maier was brought down in the penalty area but the Ivory Coast international couldn’t make it count as his shot was above the crossbar.

Four minutes later, referee Giudo Winkmann pointed to the penalty spot again, and Kalou was up to make amends for his initial mistake with a cool, calm finish past Alexander Schwolow.

After their German Cup game against Cologne on Wednesday, Hertha Berlin who are placed 11th in the Bundesliga with 10 points from 9 games, will lock horns with Hamburger SV on Saturday.
