Ranieri who? Leicester set Premier League scoring record under Shakespeare

The Foxes have responded positively to the sacking of their title-winning manager, with the goals flowing again in a meeting with West Ham

Leicester City’s decision to part with Claudio Ranieri was widely condemned, but the Foxes have been rejuvenated under his successor Craig Shakespeare.

Despite guiding the club to a remarkable Premier League title triumph, Ranieri was relieved of his duties after failing to prevent a slide into a relegation battle.

The general consensus at the time was that the Italian’s achievements should have bought him time to try and put things right.

Who has been the best in the PL in 2017?

Leicester opted to take drastic action, though, and have seen that decision justified by a return to form under Ranieri’s former right-hand man.

Back-to-back victories have been secured in the Premier League, over Liverpool and Hull City, while they are now the last British team standing in the Champions League following a memorable last 16 victory over Sevilla.

The goals have been flowing again throughout that run, with Shakespeare overseeing the setting of a new top-flight record.

Riyad Mahrez, Robert Huth and Jamie Vardy were all on target at the London Stadium against West Ham.

Getting key men firing again has been vital to Leicester’s renaissance, with there now clear daylight between themselves and the drop zone – while a top-half standing is edging into view.
