Barcelona also lost Gerard Pique to injury, the defender replaced at half-time by Javier Mascherano as a precautionary measure, and Luis Enrique is now sweating on their fitness ahead of a Copa del Rey second leg against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.

"The problem with Gerard was as a result of playing so many minutes recently and we didn't want to risk him [in the second half]," the Barca coach told reporters after the game.

"I don't know if either of them will be back for Tuesday, that will depend on the medical team and the players themselves, but I hope they are."
