Origi becomes first Liverpool player to score in four or more consecutive matches since Sturridge

Divock Origi became the first Liverpool player to score in his last four games in all competitions on Sunday since Daniel Sturridge scored in eight in a row for the Reds in early 2014.

The Belgian striker netted the equaliser early in the second half in his side’s 2-2 draw with West Ham United at Anfield, adding to his strikes against Bournemouth last week, Leeds in the EFL Cup quarter-final and Sunderland on 26th November.

Origi has now scored 6 times in 16 appearances since joining the club and he told Sky Sports that he’s hoping to kick on from here.

“I’ve had to be patient but of course, when you’re there you have to play your game and try to score as a striker,” he said.

“Every game I feel better and fitter so I just have to keep on making steps and as a team, we just have to regain the level we were on before and use our spirit to come back stronger.”

Liverpool’s frustrating and error-strewn draw with West Ham leaves them third in the Premier League table and six points behind leaders Chelsea, but Origi thinks they’ll be back to winning ways soon enough.

“When you let a team lead it’s always difficult,” he said. “[Dimitri] Payet scored the free-kick and then they scored a second goal, which was tough. I think you just have to stay focused. We got a point and next time we have to get the three points.”

The 21-year-old Belgium international recently told The Mirror that scoring goals is “like art”.

“I read somewhere that to be able to master something you have to do 10,000 hours before you become a real expert in something,” he said.

“It's like playing an instrument, like the violin. You have to practise, practise, practise. Being a striker is also art. You have to be able to shoot in the corners. People think it's a natural talent but you have to work at it.”
