Montpellier extend Souleymane Camara's stay

Souleymane Camara is set for his 12th season with Montpellier after he was handed a new one-year contract.

The Senegal international joined Stade de la Mosson’s outfit in July 2007 from Nice, helping them secure promotion to the elite division that year and was an integral part of the squad that won the league title in 2012.

Camara has made 398 appearances for the French side only bettered by Pascal Baills in the history of the club. He is also the second highest goal scorer for the side with 71 goals, just behind Laurent Blank [84].

And after sealing the deal, the former Monaco frontman expressed his pleasure at his ‘adventure’ with the club.

“Like every year, it's a great pleasure to continue the adventure with Montpellier," Camara told club website.

"Everyone has his destiny and my destiny is to be here today, I am really happy to continue here."

Club president Laurent Nicollin said: "I'm glad that the technical staff decided that we extend his stay."

"I believe he will still bring us his desire and his experience next season. To know that he is going to play his 12th season with us is a very beautiful thing.

"He may not be able to do it this season with his injury, but he has his sights on 400 matches for the club and why not overtake Pascal Baills? But do not tell him too much otherwise he will not play next year [smile].

"But seriously, I'm really happy that Souleymane has extended his adventure with us. This is the sign that we keep the connection with our experienced players."
