Manchester City v Tottenham Hotspur: Citizens to extend winning run in thriller

While their strong recent record against Guardiola's men should see them find the net, Al Hain-Cole cannot see Spurs avoiding defeat at the Etihad

Tottenham Hotspur face the daunting task of stopping the Manchester City juggernaut when they travel to the Etihad Stadium for Saturday’s high profile Premier League clash.

Having set an English top flight record with a 15th consecutive victory by thrashing Swansea City 4-0 on Wednesday, Pep Guardiola’s men are clear 11/20 (1.55) favourites with Betfair Sportsbook to make it 16 in a row here.

However, Spurs have actually won three of the last four encounters between the sides, and are on offer at 5/1 (6.00) to extend that fine record with surely their most impressive victory yet in this one.

The teams shared a 2-2 draw when they met on this ground back in January, and there are odds of 18/5 (4.60) available on them cancelling each other out once again on this occasion.

While it is hard to see anyone stopping the runaway leaders in their tracks, Mauricio Pochettino’s team are perhaps as likely candidates as any considering their record in recent encounters.

The Argentine manager has overseen three wins and no defeats in the last four meetings between the teams, with his side scoring 10 goals and conceding just three.

Although the Citizens of this season look a far more daunting prospect than the team that was still getting to grips with a demanding new style last campaign, those results should at least give the visiting players some confidence as they step out on the Etihad Stadium pitch.

Further boosted by 5-0 and 2-1 wins over Stoke and Brighton this week, Harry Kane and Co. will at least back themselves to find the net against a defence that has conceded at least once in eight of the last 11 games.

Whether that is enough to avoid defeat against such a winning machine is another question, with odds of 9/5 (2.80) seeming to offer the best value on City coming out on top despite Tottenham getting on the scoresheet.
