Jose Mourinho's men headed to the United States as part of their preparations for the season, with games against teams from Europe, MLS and Mexico

Manchester United fans had a chance to see how the Red Devils were shaping up for the 2018-19 campaign on their pre-season tour.

The 2018 tour, which saw them return to the United States for a second year in succession, involved a number of friendly matches as well as International Champions Cup games and Jose Mourinho was not particularly happy with the preparations.

United stars who competed in the 2018 World Cup were missing for the bulk of the preparations, meaning a threadbare squad including a host of academy players was used.

This is your complete guide to United's 2018-19 pre-season and Premier League fixtures, with dates, venues and all you need to know about the Red Devils' preparations.

Man United got their 2018 pre-season tour under way on July 20, a week after the conclusion of the World Cup, with a 1-1 draw against Liga MX side Club America at the University of Phoenix Stadium. Juan Mata equalised for the Premier League side after a Henry Martin opener.

From there, the Red Devils made a 700-mile journey northwest to Santa Clara, California, where they drew 0-0 with Major League Soccer outfit San Jose Earthquakes, which saw Alexis Sanchez's return.

United then kicked off their International Champions Cup commitments with a 9-8 win in penalties against Serie A giants AC Milan following a 1-1 draw in regular time.

Rivals Liverpool gave them a tough time in a derby clash, with the Reds taking a 4-1 win, but Mourinho's side rebounded well to take a 2-1 win over Real Madrid at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida.

With no Community Shield or Super Cup games to play this coming season, there was room for one final pre-season friendly against Bayern Munich, with the Germans taking a 1-0 win.

Man United's 2018-19 transfer activity

Mourinho will be keen to prevent defending champions Manchester City from clinching a successive league title, but must do so with much the same squad.

Diogo Dalot, Lee Grant and Fred were the extent of the Red Devils' incomings as the club were left wanting on deadline day, thanks to failed pursuit of Diego Godin, among others.

Additionally, defender Daley Blind left to return to Ajax after four years at Old Trafford for a €20 million (£17m/$23m) fee.
