Virgil van Dijk has been handed his Liverpool bow against Everton in the FA Cup third-round tussle at Anfield on Friday night.

The world’s most expensive defender lines up alongside Joel Matip in his first outing for the club since his record £75 million switch from Southampton.

Sadio Mane, who returned from the CAF African Player of the Year ceremony in the morning having finished runner-up to team-mate Mohamed Salah, is also included in the starting XI.

The Egyptian is unavailable due to a minor groin issue, while Philippe Coutinho misses out with a thigh knock as he closes in on his desired move to Barcelona.

Jurgen Klopp has made six changes from the 2-1 victory at Burnley, with only Joe Gomez, Adam Lallana, Emre Can, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mane retained.

Loris Karius replaces Simon Mignolet in goal, with centre-backs Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan being named in reserve. James Milner switches in for Georginio Wijnaldum in the centre of the park, while Roberto Firmino is back leading the line.

Andy Robertson returns at left-back, with Trent Alexander-Arnold moving to the bench and Gomez returning to the right flank.
