Leicester City’s Claude Puel gives Riyad Mahrez update

Leicester City manager Claude Puel has said that Riyad Mahrez will miss their clash with Swansea City on Saturday.

The Algeria international did not show up for training on Friday after he failed to secure a move to Manchester City on transfer deadline day.

The winger was also absent as the Foxes lost to Everton on Wednesday at Goodison Park.

However, the Frenchman has stated that the forward will be assessed when ‘he has cleared his head.’

“He will not be available for this game. We need to respect this decision. It is the best decision for our squad,” Puel said in a pre-match conference.

“I will assess Riyad when he has cleared his head. It is a tough situation for us to manage after this transfer window, but I think it is important now to move on and to keep our focus on the football.

“I hope for Riyad that he can clear his head and come back with us because he is a valuable player for us, crucial in our play.

“We need to stay united after all this. It is a situation we need to manage, but all the details will stay inside the club.

“I can understand disappointment, and it was a good opportunity for him. I hope he can come back happy and find a smile with his team-mates.”
