LA Galaxy v Manchester United Betting: Red Devils to get going slowly against MLS stragglers

Manchester United begin their pre-season in the searing Californian heat against an LA Galaxy side in the middle of their MLS campaign.

The friendly at the StubHub Center in the early hours of Sunday morning will serve as a good way for Jose Mourinho to begin his restructuring of the United starting XI.

With a new centre-back and a new star forward signed for a combined total of around £100 million, the Red Devils have strengthened in key areas and Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku should clearly improve the side despite the departures of Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

How strong a starting team Jose Mourinho fields against the Galaxy remains to be seen, although he has a full squad to chose from meaning it likely to be a strong side that will face the Los Angeles outfit.

The Galaxy, for their part, have been struggling with four defeats in their last five matches in all competitions and their last MLS game saw them concede six goals at home to Real Salt Lake (coincidentally United's next opponents Stateside).

bet365 offer a win for United at 2/5 (1.40) while the Galaxy can be backed at 9/2 (5.50) and the draw is offered at 7/2 (4.50).

Of course, a star-studded United team would readily expect to beat a side current sitting eighth in MLS' Western Conference, yet do not expect Mourinho's men to blow away their opponents. This is the Premier League outfit's first match of the summer and it takes place on foreign soil in warm conditions.

The pace is likely to be slow, and United could well take a while to get into their stride if they ever reach it at all. The price of 10/3 (4.33) for Draw/United in the half-time/full-time market appeals, as do the odds of 6/4 (2.50) for under 2.5 goals to be scored in the game.
