Injured Ozil 'sure' he'll recover in time for World Cup

Mesut Ozil has moved to ease fears over his participation in this summer's World Cup after he suffered a back injury.

Ozil sat out Arsenal's 5-0 win over Burnley on Sunday, with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger revealing that the former Real Madrid man would miss the remainder of the Premier League campaign with the problem.

That has led some in Germany to speculate that he could miss the World Cup in Russia, but the player himself took to Twitter to calm any concerns as well as joining the tributes for Wenger following his final home match in charge.

"It's a pity I missed yesterday's match with my back injury," he wrote.

"It'll need some time but I'm sure I'll fully recover in time for the World Cup.

"Once again I'd like to thank our boss. It was an honour playing for you, Mon. Wenger! Thanks for all the memories we shared together."

Ozil is a key player for Joachim Low's side as they look to defend the World Cup they won in 2014 this time around.

They head into the tournament as one of the favourites, with the likes of Toni Kroos, Leroy Sane and Mats Hummels among those in their highly-talented squad.
