Indian Super League: Alexandre Guimaraes in talks to extend Mumbai City FC deal

Mumbai City FC are in advanced talks with Alexandre Guimaraes to continue his role as the head coach for the 2017-18 Indian Super League (ISL) season, Goal can confirm.

The Mumbai franchise are believed to be keen to work with Guimaraes once again after he guided the club to their first ever play-offs in three seasons.

They led the group standings at the end of the league stage with 23 points from 14 matches however, went down to Atletico de Kolkata in the twin legged semi-finals.

The 56-year-old Costa Rican has led the South American nation in the 2006 World Cup. He also has experience of working in Asia with stints with UAE’s Al Wasl and China’s Tianjin Teda.

Guimaraes has over 20 years of coaching experience and is known to be proficient in English. He also represented his national team at the 1990 World Cup.

The club opted to sign Amrinder Singh for a whopping 1.20 crores INR on Friday after consulting their head coach, who it is believed was keen to rope in the former Pune FC goalkeeper.

Mumbai City FC haven’t yet decided on their second player to be retained with them pondering between defensive midfielders Pronay Halder and Sehnaj Singh, who primarily featured as a right full-back last term.
