Gabriel Jesus: Out of the question that Aguero leaves Man City and me too

Gabriel Jesus claims it is “out of the question” that both he and Sergio Aguero will leave Manchester City this summer.

The Brazil international expects Pep Guardiola to have a full complement of strikers at his disposal next season.

That means neither of his current leading men will be heading for the exits.

Both have seen moves elsewhere mooted with another transfer window open.

Aguero, who remains a model of consistency for City, has admitted that he will be returning to Independiente in his native Argentina at some stage.

Jesus, meanwhile, has been linked with a switch after slipping down the pecking order at the Etihad Stadium.

With Aguero established as first choice, the other South American forward has had to be patient and make the most of the opportunities that do come his way.

Jesus insists he is happy with that standing for now, with the 22-year-old telling the Daily Mail of the transfer talk which has been building at the Etihad Stadium: “I think it's out of the question that Aguero leaves and me too.

“[Aguero] is a legend at the club - he's the top scorer [of all time].

“Obviously as a player I always want to play, but I'm happy to help and I respect Sergio.”

Jesus wrapped up his 2018-19 campaign at club level in style, bagging a brace in a crushing 6-0 FA Cup final victory for City over Watford.

Raheem Sterling came close to taking one of those efforts off him, but the goal was eventually credited to Jesus and he ended the season with 21 across all competitions.

“It was a very important final, the last game of the season and I was happy to be able to score in such an important fixture,” he added.

On top of the goals he registered last season, Jesus also provided six assists for grateful team-mates.

His value to the City cause is obvious, contributing to Premier League, Carabao Cup and FA Cup successes in 2019, helping the Blues to secure an historic domestic treble, and will be chasing down more honours next term.

Prior to that, though, he has a Copa America campaign to contend with.

Brazil opened their bid for international glory on home soil with a 3-0 victory over Bolivia, with Jesus seeing 25 minutes off the bench in that contest.
