Dede to wait longer for 'second Swansea debut'

New Swansea City recruit Andre Ayew is likely to make his first appearance for the Jack Army on Saturday after rejoining the club last week.

The Ghanaian made a switch to Liberty Stadium from West Ham United after struggling for game time at London Stadium.

Against expectations, he was nowhere to be found when Swansea played away to Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday, and will again be missing when the Jacks play Notts County in the FA Cup on Tuesday as a result of being cap-tied.

“Andre is training well,” Carvalhal told the media on Monday.

“He will train all week and he will be available for selection on Saturday [against Burnley in the Premier League].

“It’s always good to have more options and Andre and [fellow new signing] Andy [King] are two good players.”

Andre's return to Swansea is just so timely, considering the club's injury challenges.

Midfielder Leroy Fer and striker Wilfried Bony are the latest casualties after picking up season-ending injuries in Saturday's league fixture.

“Like the people say, when one swan falls, another swan begins to fly,” said Carvalhal.

“We are disappointed because Fer was doing very well and Bony was fighting hard every day to get to his best level.

“We wish we had them available, but we have players to cover the situation in the time that they are not here.

“In attack, Bony’s injury will mean more opportunities for Tammy Abraham, while we have also brought in Andre who can play right, left or as a striker.”

Andre made 34 league appearances - all starts - and netted 12 times during his first Swansea spell in 2015-16.

He ended the season as the club's top scorer.
