The left-back will not only miss Saturday’s league encounter against Burnley, he is also set for months on the sidelines

Crystal Palace coach Roy Hodgson has confirmed that Jeffrey Schlupp’s injury will require surgery.

The Ghana international and winger Andros Townsend suffered ankle injuries in Monday’s FA Cup third round loss to Brighton and Hove Albion.

However, while the latter’s will not require any form of operation, Schlupp is set to go under the knife and, more worrying is the amount of time he would spend on the sidelines with Hodgson ‘talking months rather weeks’.

“We have a lot of injuries at the moment, but we have what I think is a competitive starting XI and affects us mostly with regard to the players I can call on from the bench and are stretched to the limit and are badly wounded,“ said Hodgson.

“Both Jeffrey and Andros are on crutches. Jeffrey will have an operation on Monday, with him we are talking months rather than weeks.

“For Andros the news is slightly better, he doesn’t need an operation and his foot is in a boot but he is also on crutches. I would like to hope he will be closer to one month rather than months.”

Schlupp, 25, has been a regular fixture for Crystal Palace having played in 19 of their 22 English Premier League fixtures this season.
