Chicharito and Lozano headline Mexico roster for friendlies, Gio dos Santos out with injury

Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez and Hirving Lozano are two of the Europe-based stars to headline Mexico's roster for a pair of upcoming friendlies.

El Tri will face Iceland at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on March 23, and will then take on Croatia at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on March 27.

The two games take place in a FIFA window, meaning coach Juan Carlos Osorio will be able to choose from both domestic and foreign-based options.

Monterrey midfielder Jonathan Gonzalez, who made a one-time switch from the U.S. to Mexico in January, has also been named to the roster.

One player who did not make the cut is the LA Galaxy's Giovani dos Santos, who will miss 1-3 weeks with a hamstring injury suffered against New York City FC last weekend.

The injury comes at an inopportune time for Dos Santos. The friendlies are the final two games where Osorio can choose from his full compliment of players before he names his preliminary World Cup roster.

After the friendlies against Iceland and Croatia, El Tri don't have another match scheduled until a May 28 friendly against Wales at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California.

El Tri kick off their World Cup campaign on June 17 against Germany before then facing South Korea and Sweden.
