Ghana and Chicago Fire midfielder David Accam says he has set sights on becoming African Player of the Year in the future.
The 27-year-old was at the Accra International Conference Centre on Thursday when Egypt and Liverpool star Mohammed Salah was crowned as the 2018 winner ahead of Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, succeeding Leicester City midfielder Riyad Mahrez.
“It is always an honour when I get nominations and hope to win an award [like the African Player of the Year],” Accam told reporters.
“You can never tell the future [but] I just pray for good health and injury free career and anything can happen.
“I am still playing active football and doing my best for my club and country so as I said I will try and work harder and you can never tell what will happen,” he added.

Accam was named Fire's best player of the year 2015 and 2016 in the MLS but missed out of the award last year despite scoring 14 goals and raking five assists.
He has been linked with a move to the Premier League in the January transfer window, with Stoke City and Bournemouth showing interest.
