Portugal icon Eusebio has been hospitalised upon his return to Portugal after it was determined that the health issues he suffered during Euro 2012 were a stroke.
The 70-year-old has endured from a string of problems in recent months, having contracted pneumonia shortly before Christmas, a neck problem in January, and a hypertensive crisis in February.
However, he was able to travel to Poland, where he was hospitalised last week before being discharged from the facility on Thursday and returning to his homeland.
But, he has now been forced to return to hospital after having suffered a stroke and, although the night passed without incident, will be monitored indefinitely my doctors.
Eusebio's condition is stable, but he remains in an intensive care unit.
The Benfica legend won 64 caps for his country across his 12-year international career, scoring 41 goals, and represented the Seleccao at the 1966 World Cup.
