Benfica have admitted that Jorge Jesus put an end to any hopes of signing Simao this summer from Atletico Madrid, as the coach was adamant he wanted to sign someone younger according to elmundodeportivo.
Benfica had set aside cash and players to push through a deal to bring the former Benfica star back to Portugal but as negotiations began, Jesus decided to pull the plug on the whole operation.
The coach's decision caused a stir around the Stadium of Light but officials eventually saw the light and opted for Salvio instead.
