Champions League hopefuls Sporting Braga have completed the transfer of highly rated midfielder Custodio Castro from Vitoria Guimaraes on a free transfer. The 27-year-old midfielder has signed a three-year deal with the Portuguese side.

Braga qualified for the group stage of the Champions League by beating Sevilla and the Liga Sagres side were keen to strengthen their midfield ahead of their group opener against Arsenal on September 15.

Custodio started his professional career with Sporting CP, but left the Lisbon side for Russian side Dynamo Moscow in the summer of 2007. The holding midfielder returned to Portugal in January 2009, when he joined Vitoria. He cancelled his contract with the Guimaraes side by mutual consent earlier this month.

"Braga are a great club with a top class squad and structure, and I'll be another one to try to help them reach their objectives," commented Custodio on the official Braga website.
