Porto finished in a disappointing third in the Portuguese top flight last season and have subsequently reinforced their squad. Andre Villas Boas has been appointed the new coach while Joao Moutinho, James Rodriguez, Souza and Sereno have been signed so far this summer.
Fernando is very impressed by what he has seen of Villas Boas so far.
“It has been great working with the new coach,” said the Brazilian, according to Portugoal.net. “I am enjoying the training methods, which have been very dynamic. I hope the pace is maintained, so that we can achieve our bigger target, which is to be champions.
“The pre-season has been good and beneficial. We’ll continue to work to make a good start. We’re still only just beginning to find our rapport, but I think we’re on track.”
The 22-year-old is also relishing playing alongside the likes of the highly rated Joao Moutinho.
“I’ll do whatever the coach asks of me," he continued. "If I have to be more attack-minded, I will be. If I am to be more of a defensive player, I will do what I am asked to the best of my abilities.
“I already admired Moutinho before he came. He’s a great player and I’m sure he will help us a lot. I hope Souza can adapt as quickly as possible to help the team because I think he’s a great player too.
“Raul Meireles? He is a great team-mate. If he stays here, it will be good for FC Porto. If he leaves it will also be good for Porto because he will bring in an interesting amount of money.”
