"In response to a number of recent press reports discussing the capture of new players, Sao Paulo defender Xandao in particular, Benfica want to make it clear that we're not interested in signing any new players," reads a statement on the official Benfica website.
"The club's top priority at the moment is to hold on to all players from our current squad. We understand the interests of players' agents by linking their players to other clubs, but we want to stay clear from this kind of rumours."
Benfica were believed to be in the market for a new defender following the ongoing uncertainty about the future of Luisao and David Luiz, but the Lisbon side are apparently determined to hold on to their current defensive partnership.
