Jorge Ribeiro Close To Swapping Benfica For Vitoria Guimaraes
Following an unhappy second stint with his hometown club, Ribeiro is poised to try his luck in the north of the country...
By Robin Bairner
The 28-year-old has found little space in the Benfica squad this term, despite serving the club for seven years over two spells. However, the left-sided player has always found it tough to break into the first team on a regular basis and would appear to crave first team football.
Vitoria are seemingly willing to offer the nine-times capped player such an option, though there are a number of clubs from Portugal’s top flight rumoured to be interested in acquiring the player’s services. A deal could be struck within the Guimaraes outfit in the coming hours, according to reports.
The northern outfit supposedly have a good relationship with the player, who was taken back to Lisbon by Quique Sanchez Flores. The coach, who used the player in midfield as well as defence, has since left for Atletico Madrid and newly appointed trainer Jorge Jesus would appear to have limited space for Ribeiro in his plans.
