Benfica Midfielder Javi Garcia: I Was Sick Of Warming The Bench At Real Madrid

The Spanish midfielder is more than happy that he left Madrid for a Portuguese adventure...

Javi Garcia - Real Madrid
Holding midfielder Javi Garcia failed to break into the first team at Real Madrid over an extended period and therefore opted to leave Madrid for Benfica in the summer of 2009. And the 22-year-old doesn't regret his decision one bit, instead he is revelling in the elevated role he is currently enjoying at his new club.

"I was sick of warming up the bench at the Bernabeu. I decided to leave because I arrived at the conclusion that they didn’t count on me and wanted to loan me out again,” said Garcia to La Verdad.

"They said either I accept this solution or I’d have to leave, so that’s what I did. They negotiated with Benfica and I signed for five years. The only thing I can say is that I don’t regret it.

"I’ve played every game for Benfica, so I know I have the trust of the coach Jorge Jesus. I’m a regular and I feel valued and appreciated by the fans. This is all a footballer could want.
