Juventus In Veloso Bid

Juventus are believed to have stepped up their interest in Sporting highly-rated midfielder Miguel Veloso.

Miguel Veloso - Portugal
The Portuguese international has reiterated his wish for a bigger challenge next term and his statements to the press have not gone unnoticed in Europe.

Arsenal coach Arsène Wenger is a keen admirer of 22-year-old's potential and is eager to bring him to Emirates Stadium after watching Mathieu Flamini agreeing to join AC Milan.

But Gunners will have to face stiff competition for Veloso's signature as news daily O JOGO states that Juventus have joined the race for the Sporting man.

La Vecchia Signora's prime targets are believed to be Alberto Aquilani and Xabi Alonso but the Turin-based club are ready to splash their cash on Veloso in case those deals fall through.

"Yes, it is true that we want to reinforce our team with a midfielder. Miguel Veloso? I think it's hard," Juventus sporting director Alessio Secco told O JOGO.

"We do not hide that we are considering several options to reinforce our midfield area. Miguel Veloso? We obviously know him, it would be impossible not to. He is an excellent player but I do not think his signing would be easy.

"Impossible? There is no such thing, but I stress that it is complicated."

Veloso had a release clause of €30 million attached to his contract but such clause has expired and Sporting are now able to negotiate for the player.
