The Indian Super League side have secured the signature of the former France international, making him their marquee player

Indian Super League (ISL) franchise Pune City have completed the signing of former Juventus star David Trezeguet.

The Frenchman was officially named the club's marquee player at the team launch in Mumbai on Wednesday after agreeing a one-year deal with the side co-owned by Bollywood actor Salman Khan and coached by former Napoli and Parma boss Franco Colomba.

Trezeguet joins former Arsenal duo Robert Pires and Freddie Ljungberg - as well as ex-Liverpool and Barcelona attacker Luis Garcia - in the tournament, which kicks off in October.

Trezeguet won the World Cup and European Championship with France in 1998 and 2000 respectively. He also holds the distinction of being the third highest all-time goalscorer for his country.

The prolific striker began his career with Atletico Platense at the age of eight and has played for Monaco, Juventus and River Plate, and spent last season on loan at Newell's Old Boys.

The 36 year-old has scored more than 300 goals in his career and was the Serie A Footballer of the Year in the 2001-02 season.

Mr Gaurav Modwel, CEO of Pune City, said: "By joining hands with the legends of football, FC Pune City brings international expertise to the team to nurture young talent and hopefully take football to a different level in a country where all other sports have been eclipsed by cricket."
