Domenech tips Gignac for France recall

Les Bleus' former boss has backed the in-form striker to end his international exile ahead of the World Cup qualifiers in September

Andre-Pierre Gignac deserves a recall to the France national team, according to former head coach Raymond Domenech.

The 27-year-old has not been involved with the international squad since their dismal display under Domenech at the 2010 World Cup, where les Bleus managed just one point during their group-stage exit.

But Domenech believes Gignac should be rewarded with inclusion in Didier Deschamp's squad for September's World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Belarus, having scored two goals in as many games at the start of Olympique de Marseille's campaign.

"Gignac has real potential," he told "He goes deep and troubles defenders.

"I saw him at Guingamp. He's made a lot of progress both tactically and technically, in receiving the ball with his back to goal and keeping possession.

"He is able to turn and also play for time as he waits for a team-mate. What more do you want?"

France currently sit one point behind Group I leaders Spain heading into the autumn clashes.
