Lyon coach Remi Garde has warned Clement Grenier against believing the hype that has begun to surround his growing reputation.
After bursting onto the scene last season, the midfielder has continued his great run of form with an impressive pre-season, including a wonderful goal in the 2-2 draw with Real Madrid - but his coach has urged him to remain grounded.
“I’m not afraid of the hype, it’s essential to his growth,” he told L’Equipe.
“He will have to learn to manage his reputation, focus on his game and continue to do the simple things.
“The more he progresses, the more we’ll expect extraordinary things from him. But in a game with such players like Juninho who can change a game, there are plenty of simple things that we tend to forget.”
Garde added his desire to see the 22-year-old produce on a more consistent basis and improve on a record of seven goals and five assists in 28 league matches last season.
“He’s one of those players who can change a game around.
“I’ve known for a while now that he has something special. But like many players at the age of 17, I remember he was a temperamental player, who was talented, but in cycles.”
