Grenier: Lyon target Champions League qualification
The 22-year-old believes the club's priority is to finish in the top two in Ligue 1 and feels the 0-0 draw against Marseille has left them in pole position to achieve their goal
Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier has revealed the club's main aim is to qualify for the Champions League despite them being within touching distance of Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain.Les Gones sit four points behind Carlo Ancelotti's side in second place, with Marseille a further three points adrift, and Grenier has insisted the club will be happy with a top-two finish.
"The goal is the Champions League. We're in the right position and are currently second between Paris and Marseille. We are on target," he told L'Equipe.
"But there are 10 matches left. Football goes fast. I think there will still be surprises."
Remi Garde's side boosted their chances of reaching Europe's premier club competition with a 0-0 draw against Marseille on Sunday, and the 22-year-old believes it was a good result against difficult opposition.
"We always want to win, especially at home, but in front of us there was a good team in OM. The match was tight, with little space. Sometimes it is better not to lose.
"We missed a few chances for the three points. We gave everything, we have nothing to regret."
The France Under-21 international was used as a substitute in the crucial encounter, and though he was disappointed not to start, he was happy with his performance.
"When you start as a substitute, you are always a little disappointed but the most important thing is to get into the game, especially when there is such intensity," he added.
"When I entered, there was a little more space, but I was especially careful because they tried to counter us."
