Ayew: I prefer Beckham's fashion to his football
The Marseille striker praises the 37-year-old's ability ahead of this weekend's match with Paris Saint-Germain but says he prefers Beckham's fashion sense to his football
Marseille striker Andre Ayew says he prefers David Beckham's fashion sense to his displays on the football field ahead of his side's Ligue 1 match against Paris Saint-Germain.
The Ghana international praised the 37-year-old former England captain who could feature for PSG on Sunday, but admitted he had not been his favourite player as a youngster.
“He is a great player. When I was little I watched him doing great things but he is not my idol,” the 23-year-old told reporters.
“It was not my dream to play against him. I enjoy his fashion more than his football, even if he does provide extraordinary assists and goals.”
Ayew, who has scored 10 goals in 32 appearances this season, has been at the Stade Velodrome since 2007 and scored 11 goals in helping the club to the 2010-11 Ligue 1 title.
Marseille currently lie third in Ligue 1, five points adrift of PSG and two behind second-placed Lyon.
