| Montpellier geared up for their first ever Champions League campaign with a demoralising 3-1 defeat to promoted Stade de Reims, who move into the top ten. The visitors started brightly, with Karim Ait-Fana going close, before John Utaka was forced off with an injury which meant that he will be out for the visit of Arsenal on Tuesday. Reims were unassuming in the first half, and took the lead moments after Montpellier had an effort cleared over the line. Diego Rigonato found space to shoot low under Geoffrey Jourdren to open the scoring. Remy Cabella equalised in the second half soon after coming on, but an inspirational individual goal from Christian Glombard swung the advantage back in the hosts' favour. Glombard turned provider late on for Gael Courtet to hand Reims a shock victory over the champions, who lie close to the relegation zone on the eve of their maiden Champions League campaign. |

| Lille's winless run extended to four games, after a frustrating 1-1 draw with promoted ESTAC Troyes on Saturday afternoon. The visitors were in the ascendancy, with Marvin Martin firing a volley goalwards, which was well blocked by host goalkeeper Yohann Thuram-Ulien. Dimitri Payet broke the deadlock minutes before the interval, holding off Mounir Obbadi to slot the ball past Thuram-Ulien. However, Jean-Marc Furlan's men failed to give up, despite Jean-Christophe Bahebeck's glaring miss in the second half, and duly equalised in the 89th minute through Sebastien Grax to earn a deserved point. The 2011 champions have now failed to win a game since the opening day, and welcome BATE Borisov on matchday one of the Champions League. |

| Sochaux finally secured their first points of the season with a hard-fought away win at Saint-Etienne on Saturday. Les Lionceaux had failed to win any of their previous four games, and were faced with a Les Verts team who had won their last two games 3-0 and 4-0 respectively. However, the task for Christophe Galtier's side was made more difficult with Jonathan Brison shown a straight red card after just 10 minutes. Simon Pouplin, who replaced Pierrick Cros in the Sochaux goal, produced one of the best individual goalkeeping performances for some time, denying Faouzi Ghoulam, Joshua Guilavogui and Romain Hamouma as the hosts failed to negotiate a way past the custodian. It was left for Thierry Doubai to score the winner 15 minutes from time from a Sebastien Roudet corner, with Pouplin preserving the lead late on, thwarting Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. |

| Evian secured their first victory of the season, comfortably seeing off SC Bastia 3-0 at Parc des Sports in Annecy. It would prove to be a routine victory for new manager Pascal Lapraz who saw Cedric Barbosa open the scoring after 31 minutes after good work by Kevin Berigaud. Toifilou Maoulida immediately hit the post after that setback, but the hosts held their opponents at bay, with Barbosa hitting the crossbar midway through the second period. Yannick Sagbo doubled the lead after 73 minutes to put the match out of reach from the visitors, with Barbosa pouncing on a poor clearance from Sylvain Marchal to score his second, and give Lapraz the best possible start to his managerial stint. |

| OGC Nice hit four past Stade Brest, to give Claude Puel his first win as les Aiglons boss, in a six-goal thriller at Stade du Ray. After a competitive first half, Camel Meriem broke the deadlock to hand the hosts a well-earned lead, before Nemanja Pejcinovic and Eric Bautheac both struck past Alexis Thebaux to hand Nice a seemingly unassailable 3-0 lead with 20 minutes to go. Jonathan Ayite reduced the deficit from the penalty spot, before Valentin Eysseriac made it 4-1 in the 90th minute and restore the three-goal advantage. However, Paul Baysse made the most of some lax defending to score at the death, but it would be no more than a consolation goal. |

| Valenciennes' formidable home record continued, after holding unbeaten Bordeaux to a 0-0 draw at Stade du Hainaut. Francis Gillot's side were the dominant side in the first half, with Benoit Tremoulinas and more notably, Ludovic Obraniak failing to seriously trouble Nicolas Penneteau. The tempo significantly dropped in the second half, though Loris Nery would spurn the best opportunity, but failed to accurately connect with the ball. Bordeaux, who have amassed 11 points out of 15, now turn their attention to a Europa League match against Club Brugge. |

| Stade Rennes' woeful start to the season continued after Lorient moved to second place, despite ending the game with nine men, in an astonishing encounter which saw three red cards. Record signing Alain Traore opened the scoring midway through the first half with a brilliant long-range effort which beat Benoit Costil in the les Rouge et noir goal. Maxime Baca would subsequently see a straight red for a crude challenge on Jonathan Pitroipa, before the visitors struck again in superb fashion - this time, Traore netting with a wonderful 35-yard free-kick. The second cycle of a Lorient goal and red card was complete in the 53rd minute when goalkeeper Fabien Audard was sent off for a last man challenge on Pitroipa. The Burkinabe reduced the deficit, but Cheick Diarra would ensure that the game saw as many red cards as goals, with a shocking tackle on Traore, as Rennes slumped to 19th in the table. |

| Olympique Lyonnais secured a routine 2-0 victory over a disappointing AC Ajaccio side at Stade de Gerland. Dejan Lovren returned from injury to feature for the first time since the Coupe de France final in April, and promptly scored, heading in from Clement Grenier's in-swinging corner. The visitors failed to adequately pose a threat to the seven-time champions, but stepped up their game once new signing Adrian Mutu made an impact from the bench. However, the result was put to bed when Lisandro Lopez notched his 50th Ligue 1 goal since 2009, latching onto Steed Malbranque's pass to make it 2-0. Remi Garde's men have won 13 points out of a possible 15, and will face Sparta Prague in their Europa League campaign. |

 Marseille made it their best ever start to a Ligue 1 season, by making it five out of five wins to top the table once more with a 1-0 victory over Nancy at Stade Marcel Picot. The visitors were bright throughout the first half, with Andre Ayew and Andre-Pierre Gignac in particular wasting gilt-edged chances in a productive 45 minutes for Elie Baup's men. Jean Fernandez's side struggled to cope with the in-form Gignac, though profligate finishing would deny him an opening goal, his effort flashing wide of Guy N'Dy Assembe's goal. Nancy improved after the break, after the setback of Massadio Haidara's serious back injury early into the second period, with Steve Mandanda looking suspect on occasions. However, the league leaders would break the deadlock midway through the half, with Andre Ayew delivering a pin point cross for younger brother Jordan, who headed easily into the net. Sebastien Puygrenier spurned a chance late on, but OM held on to move two points clear once more. The 2010 champions host Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday. |
