I do not discuss captaincy with anyone, says Hugo Lloris
The 25-year-old shot-stopper has claimed that he does not talk about the captain's armband, amidst rumours that Rio Mavuba is set to take over the honour
France captain Hugo Lloris has distanced himself from reports that Rio Mavuba is set to take over the armband for the national side.
The Lille midfielder has featured prominently under new boss Didier Deschamps, but the Tottenham goalkeeper has claimed that despite rumours, the atmosphere is "very good" inside the camp.
“The choice of captain belongs to the coach,” he told RMC Sport. “We do not discuss it. The team is focused on the goal of reaching the World Cup.
“There is a very good atmosphere [within the squad] and everyone is pulling in the same direction.
“All the players are trying to prove they deserve a place in this team. Rio [Mavuba] is just one of them. He has a lot of experience, he's hungry and he wants to prove that he can play some great games in the jersey of the France team.”
Didier Deschamps' side host Belarus on Tuesday evening, in their second World Cup 2014 qualifier.
