The midfield enforcer has featured prominently in both of coach Didier Deschamps' first two fixtures in charge, the latest cumulating in Les Bleus collecting their first competitive win under the former Olympique de Marseille boss.
"It felt good to play, but more important than individual performances is the victory of the team," explained the 28-year-old to L'Equipe.
"Today, talk of a bid for the France captaincy is premature, even if it would be a great honour. I will try to ease myself into this team rather than steal the headlines.
"Relaying between coaches and team-mates comes naturally from my time with Lille, but here there are already players in designated positions. For the time being, I consider Hugo Lloris my captain."
Following their success on Friday evening, France will be hopeful of a repeat performance and result when they host Belarus at Stade de France next Tuesday.
