Arsenal striker Giroud: French players losing their Euro 2012 bonus is no disaster

Four players were sanctioned financially for the disciplinary issues that plagued their campaign in Poland and Ukraine, but the Gunners forward believes that it is not a big issue

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud believes that the decision to strip several France players of their Euro 2012 bonuses will prove to be a good thing.

The French Football Federation came to the decision to deprive Samir Nasri, Hatem Ben Arfa, Jeremy Menez and Yann M'Vila of around €100,000 for the roles they played in the disciplinary issues that hampered les Bleus' summer campaign.

But the 25-year-old feels that the quartet's punishments will help future generations understand what behaviour is acceptable when on international duty.

"The penalty has been handed out, and I was not aware of it," he said, according to RMC.

"It's not a disaster. If it raises awareness about things that you cannot repeat or do, so be it."

Since making his international debut in 2011, Giroud has won nine caps for France, scoring his only goal in Febuary's 2-1 win over Germany.
