Antoine Kombouare has stated that he was not surprised when he was relieved of his post as Paris Saint-Germain coach.
After months of speculation, the 48-year-old was replaced by Carlo Ancelotti at Parc des Princes in December, and the coach says he was not bitter at the situation because he had seen it coming.
"I was not surprised. I'm not bitter and I have already moved on," Kombouare told Le Parisien.
"On the day of the Saint-Etienne match [December 20], I gathered my staff to say: 'This is my last match.' I could feel it.
"I could understand it because the owners wanted a well-known coach."
The former Valenciennes coach also revealed that he was working alone towards the end of his reign, without the help of his staff.
"For the final months, I was working alone. When I was sacked, it was a disappointment because we were first, but it was also a relief. It had to end."
Finally, Kombouare spoke out about his replacement, Carlo Ancelotti, and voiced his opinion that the Italian is among the best coaches in the world.
"With [Carlo] Ancelotti, what can we say? He is one of the great coaches along with [Alex] Ferguson, [Pep] Guardiola and [Jose] Mourinho.
"I'm not worse and I don't accept the idea of being sacked while being first in the league. But even if I had an oversized ego, even if I had the balls, I have to say: 'Well, it's Ancelotti'."
