Maxime Gonalons signs 2016 contract extension with Lyon

The reported Real Madrid target has penned a long-term deal at the Stade Gerland following his continuous impressive form for Remi Garde's men this season
Maxime Gonalons has signed a two-year contract extension with Olympique Lyonnais, taking him up to 2016, the club announced on Friday.

The 22-year-old has been outstanding in filling the void left behind by Jeremy Toulalan who left for Spanish side Malaga in the summer.

Gonalons has been reportedly linked with a move to Real Madrid, but after extending the contracts of Michel Bastos and Hugo Lloris, the club moved to secure a new deal for the young Frenchman.

A statement on their official website reads: "Olympique Lyonnais are delighted to announce the extension of Maime Gonalons' contract until June 30, 2016."

Gonalons has scored two goals in 47 Ligue matches for Remi Garde's men.

Lyon are currently third in the league, three points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
