Auxerre played out an unconvincing 1-1 draw with Caen at Stade de l'Abbe Deschamps on Saturday evening.
The first-half was all AJA, who were unlucky not to score two in the space of two minutes. Romain Hamouma tested Olivier Sorin midway through the first half. Alain Traore, scorer of five goals already in the league, hit the bar from 30 yards before Denis Oliech faced the same fate after good pressure from the hosts.
And Caen's poor defending was punished minutes later. Issam Jemaa latched onto a fine ball by Edouard Cisse, and calmly slotted past Alexis Thebaux to make it 1-0 and notch his first goal for his new club. Traore and Jemaa linked well to force Thebaux into an alert save before they were made to rue their profligacy on the stroke of half-time. Kandia Traore set up Benjamin Nivet to equalise for the Normandy side.
Both sides had chances to win it in the second half, but neither were able to offer much of an attacking threat late on, with the teams' ultimately settling for a point. |
| Valenciennes |
4-0 | Dijon |
| Bottom before the commencement of matchday five, Valenciennes grabbed their first win of the season, and indeed, the first win at the new Stade du Hainault with a commanding and stylish 4-0 victory over Dijon. The first half was an average affair, with both sides cancelling each other out accordingly. The hosts were frustrated by Baptiste Reynet on various occasions, whilst also working to keep the menacing Brice Jovial at bay. After the second half, however, it was all one way traffic for the hosts. Gael Danic opened the scoring on 53 minutes with a diving header. Gregory Pujol grabbed a brace in the space of three minutes before Remi Cohade rounded off the rout late on with a well-taken finish as Daniel Sanchez bagged himself a first win as VAFC boss. |
| Toulouse |
3-2 | Bordeaux |
| Toulouse produced a magnificent comeback to beat Bordeaux 3-2, despite being two goals down at half-time in an enthralling encounter. An edgy start to the match, was sparked by Cheick Diabate who broke the deadlock on 15 minutes. The 23 year old Malian was on hand to double his tally before half-time to put Les Girondins in a commanding position at the interval. Whatever Alain Casanova's men said at half-time worked to full effect in the second period. Franck Tabanou slotted home a penalty on 53 minutes following Daniel Braaten's infringement in the box. Etienne Capoue restored parity on the hour following some poor defending from the visitors. Cedric Carrasso saw red after hauling down Umut Bulut in the box with 15 minutes to go, but Tabanou this time missed his spot-kick. A highly-charged affair was put to bed in injury time when Emmanuel Riviere outpaced Michael Ciani and slotted home at the death to claim all three points to the delight of those inside Stadium Municipal. |
| Nice |
3-0 | Ajaccio |
| Nice gained their first Ligue 1 win of the season with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Ajaccio at Stade du Ray. Les Aiglons had their chances in the first half, with Xavier Pentecote and Luciano Monzon testing Guillermo Ochoa with unsuccessful efforts. Olivier Pantaloni's side were dealt a blow before half-time when Johan Cavalli was shown a straight red card after handling inside the box. Monzon stepped up to fire his penalty into the bottom corner on 45 minutes to nudge the hosts' in front. A low-key second half was only lit up with events in the last few minutes. Jean-Baptiste Pierazzi brought down the Argentine in the box, with Monzon doubling his tally from the spot. Renato Civelli wrapped up the points with a header minutes later to hand Eric Roy's side a much-needed win. |
| Brest |
2-2 |
Montpellier |
| Montpellier stayed top of Ligue 1 despite throwing away a two-goal lead against Brest, who ultimately fought back to 2-2 in an enthralling encounter at Stade Francis Le Ble. La Paillade took the lead in the 19th minute through Olivier Giroud. A free-kick for the visitors was taken by Marco Estrada, whose effort was pushed into the path of Giroud who took full advantage and poke the ball into an empty net. A similar situation ensued minutes later when another effort by the tricky Chilean was saved awkwardly by Steeve Elana, only this time, Giroud's effort was saved. Rene Girard's men however continued to impose their attacking dominance. Younes Belhanda went close, before Henri Bedimo's pace on the left followed by a delivery saw Giroud divert a pin-point header into the net before the break for his fourth goal of the campaign. Alex Dupont's side took the initiative in the second half after a defensive slip. Eden Ben Baset pounced on Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa's mistake to halve the deficit after 69 minutes. Santiago Gentiletti restored parity late on, putting away a loose ball after some poor defending as Brest held on for a point. Tripy Makonda was also shown a red-card for the hosts following a challenge on Geoffrey Dernis. |
| Lorient |
3-0 |
Saint Etienne |
| Lorient produced a convincing 3-0 win over Saint Etienne to move into the top four of Ligue 1 after a fine performance at Stade du Moustoir. In a distinctly average start, it was the hosts who edged ahead after 11 minutes of play. A well taken corner saw Kevin Monnet-Paquet nudge the ball into the path of Jeremie Aliadiere who headed past Stephane Ruffier for 1-0. After the goal, much of the play became was emphasised in midfield, with few gilt-edged chances, though Yann Jouffre and Bakary Sako would test the opposite keepers with speculative efforts. Les Verts offered little of an attacking threat in a disappointing outing for Christophe Galtier's men. Aliadiere added a second 13 minutes from time. Mathieu Coutadeur compounded their misery with a well taken goal deep into injury time to consign Sainte to a second successive league defeat. |
| Lille |
2-2 |
Sochaux |
|
Match Report Champions Lille were undone by Sochaux at the Stadium Lille Metropole in Saturday night's late game. Les Dogues, who let slip a two-goal lead against CSKA Moscow in the Champions League earlier in the week, were also to be frustrated late on. Benoit Pedretti's header put Rudi Garcia's side ahead before Cedric Bakambu equalised. A red card for Mathieu Debuchy followed, before a Eden Hazard oenalty and Sloan Privat's 86th minute equaliser saw a share of the spols. Read the full match report by clicking on the link above. |
| Evian |
2-2 |
PSG |
| PSG came back from two goals down to draw 2-2 against promoted Evian in Annecy in a lively game from both sides. The hosts took a shock lead in the 14th minute through Jerome Leroy. Eric Tie Bi's interception in the middle of the park laid off Yannick Sagbo. The left midfielder set up Leroy, who calmly directed his effort past Salvatore Sirigu. Bernard Casoni's men had the better of the opening chances, and the Parc des Sports went into delirium when they doubled their lead six minutes later. Sagbo was upended in the penalty area by Sylvian Armand with the referee unhesistant in giving a penalty. The 23 year old powered his penalty home to make it 2-0. Toward the end of the first half, Les Parisiens found their attacking rhythm, and it wasn't long before they halved the deficit. Javier Pastore capitalised on Jeremy Menez's ball to fire home into the bottom hand corner in the 43rd minute. Antoine Koumbouare's men kept up the heat in the second half, but were made to rue missed chances. Kevin Gameiro and Nene had opportunities to grab the elusive second but were kept largely at bay by a resolute Evian defence. Nevertheless, the elusive second did arrive. A well worked free-kick saw subsitute Mevult Erding head in the direction of Mathieu Bodmer who powered his header past Stephan Andersen. Nicolas Farina spurned a late chance to steal a shock win for the hosts, after Armand's late clearance going some way to atone for his earlier penalty give-away. |
| Stade Rennes |
1-1 |
Nancy |
| Rennes were undone by a late Nancy penalty as they were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw in a competitive encounter in Brittany. An edgy start to proceedings at Stade Route de la Lorient eventually tipped in favour of the hosts who nudged ahead after 18 minutes. Jonathan Pitroipa continued his assured start to life in France as he set up Victor Montano after displaying pace on the left wing. Montano coolly finished past Guy Assembe to make it 1-0. After that goal, the match began to become more concentrated around the midfield with few attacking opportunities. Les Rouge et Noir had chances to add to their tally in the second half, with Pitroipa again lively on the flanks. The former Hamburg threaded the ball to Julian Feret who went close. Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik's handball in the area was to be the break for Jean Fernandez's men. Captain Andre Luiz powered home from the spot to restore parity. In the final ten minutes, Pitroipa again had a chance to win it, only to be thwarted by Assembe in an impressive performance from the summer signing. |
