Frenchman admits that the decision to leave the Ligue 1 team “was difficult” and adds that he has yet to choose his next destination
Jean Fernandez has decided to leave his post as the coach of Auxerre after five years at the French club.
The 56-year-old has decided not to renew his contract that has run out and has confirmed that he has no plan to continue at the Ligue 1 side.
Fernandez told l'Yonne republicaine: "Yes, I made my decision on Wednesday night. I decided to leave and turn the page at AJA.
"This choice was difficult. I was reluctant, because I cannot erase five years of my life like that. Deciding whether to stay or go was a dilemma, but I chose to leave."
Reports in France suggest that Fernandez could now move to Nancy, Lyon or Sochaux, but the Frenchman says that he has not yet sorted out his future.
"I have not decided," he said. “I give myself two or three days of reflection."
The former Sochaux and Marseille coach had been with Auxerre since 2006 and led them to a ninth-place table in Ligue 1 in the 2010-11 campaign.
