FFF technical director suspended as Franca quota row continues

The technical director of the French Football Federation has been suspended by the sports minister as an investigation is launched into the alleged use of ethnic quotas.

Francis Blaquart, national technical director of the France Football Federation (FFF) has been provisionally suspended from duties as the investigation into the use of racial quotas continues, according to Goal.com France.

Earlier this week, an investigation was called into allegations by French website Mediapart that the FFF intended to institute quotas that limited the number of black and Arab players at national training centers. And rather than wait for the results of the investigation, Blaquart has been suspended from his post by sports minister Chantal Jouanno.

Jouanno revealed that she acted under the suggestion of FFF president Fernand Duchaussoy, who thought it best for all concerned to suspend Blaquard before the investigation was concluded.

“Duchaussoy suggested I suspend [Blaquart] from duty, until the time of the inspection mission and internal investigation result. It is also to protect the director,” said Jouanno.

“The words that are mentioned by Mediapart are still pretty serious. We’ll leave those to the prosecutor. It is better to temporarily suspend him and see if the allegations are true or not. The content of his remarks is morally reprehensible.”
