Nancy centre-back Andre Luiz has admitted that he regrets kicking out at Eden Hazard when the Lorraine side met Lille on Wednesday evening, but the Brazilian was left unimpressed by the young Belgian’s attitude.
Les Dogues romped to an impressive 3-0 victory in the north of France on Wednesday evening, with Gervinho and Hazard starring on the wings. Andre Luiz did not take too kindly to being made look silly by the 20-year-old and was dismissed for a swipe at the highly-rated talent with the end of the game in sight.
“Of course I regret my actions, I should not have reacted like that,” he explained to France Football. “I have not tried to hurt him; I just wanted to show him that his attitude was not correct. When the score was already 3-0, there was a few minutes when he would get the ball, beat his opponent and then try to do it again. Even his Lille team-mates told me that he had done too much.”
The sides are due to meet again in early May, when the stakes will be higher. Lille, presently four points clear at the top of Ligue 1, will be hoping they remain in such an advantageous position when they next cross paths with Pablo Correa’s side.
