President of Olympique de Marseille, Jean-Claude Dassier, has confessed that it’s unlikely that les Phoceens will complete a capture for Stade Rennais’ Rod Fanni.
OM have been seriously courting the France international side Cesar Azpilicueta picked up a serious injury a fortnight ago, though they have been tracking him for a good deal longer. Negotiations appear to be breaking down, despite Marseille coach Didier Deschamps putting on a brave face prior to the weekend’s draw with Auxerre.
“Today, we cannot be optimistic,” Dassier explained to RMC, echoing the comments of Rennes general manager Pierre Dreossi, who had indicated over the weekend that the deal was “strangely complicated”.
“The financial requirements named by Rod Fanni’s agent are unreasonable,” the OM official continued. “There’s a pessimistic prognosis.
“I do not see the point of making a meeting unless the player takes his affairs and deals with us in a reasonable manner. For the moment, we are in the unreasonable.”
L’Equipe suggests Nancy’s Michael Chretien could now be a target, but Deschamps is not happy with the Moroccan’s fitness as he presently has a hamstring problem.
