Olympique de Marseille’s swoop for Stade Rennais defender Rod Fanni could drag on for an extended period as Breton general manager Pierre Dreossi has conceded there have been hiccups in the deal.
OM started their hunt for Fanni when Cesar Azpilicueta, who was incidentally voted Ligue 1’s second sexiest player behind Olympique Lyonnais’ Yoann Gourcuff this week, suffered serious knee ligament damage nearly a fortnight ago.
Negotiations have been plagued by problems, with les Phoceens refusing initially to match Rennes’ €3.5 million estimation of the player. These clearly still exist as Dreossi has told the media that the transfer is “strangely complicated”, though he did not go into any more detail of the problems experienced.
Didier Deschamps was earlier this week confident of snapping up the former Nice full-back, but with Liverpool reportedly interested too, the French champions could face a race against time to secure their primary target for the vacant role.
