Peru international goalkeeper Raul Fernandez will sign for Nice, but he won't join the squad until the summer.
Les Aiglons have been chasing the 25-year-old for several weeks, with reports in mid-November indicating that they were closing in on the signing. He will not, however, remain in France until the end of the season, instead returning to his native land on loan for six months until the European season is over.
At that time, Fernandez, who is to sign a four-and-a-half-year deal, will join his new team-mates for summer training and is expected to become the understudy to Colombian custodian David Ospina. He will replace retiring France international Lionel Letizi.
Fernandez arrives in France with significant pedigree, having claimed the Peruvian title with his formative team. Additionally, he was named the best player and best goalkeeper in Peru last season and is therefore well placed to keep up le Gym’s recent tradition of having a strong guardian, following in the footsteps of Hugo Lloris.
