Triple Injury Blow For Marseille Ahead Of Lyon Tie As Benoit Cheyrou, Bakari Kone & Fabrice Abriel Are Out
An unwelcome hat-trick of problems have disrupted OM’s preparations for the big weekend encounter against les Gones at Stade Velodrome and may well hit their chances of Coupe de la Ligue success too...

Olympique de Marseille suffered a disappointing reverse in the Europa League against Benfica on Thursday evening, but the repercussions of the night may be longer lasting as Benoit Cheyrou, Bakari Kone and Fabrice Abriel all picked up injuries that will rule them out of Sunday’s encounter against Olympique Lyonnais.
With the situation tight at the top of Ligue 1, every point counts, more so when it is won against a close rival, and this clash has been given top billing of what promises to be a thrilling weekend of football in France.
However, home boss Didier Deschamps won’t have his problems to seek on the injury front, confessing to the press that all three players will miss the weekend encounter, and possibly the Coupe de la Ligue final against Girondins de Bordeaux the following week.
“We won’t see them play on Sunday and it’s unlikely that we’ll see them next Saturday,” he said to the AFP news agency. “Three players injured, three options less for the games to come.”
Abriel has a groin problem and will likely be absent for two weeks, while Kone has hamstring trouble and will miss at least 10 days. Meanwhile, Cheyrou’s status is more uncertain. He is due to undergo tests on Friday to ascertain his issue.
