Nancy vs Bordeaux
After a brief battle between Girondins de Bordeaux and the LFP (Ligue de Football Professionel), les Girondins have successfully won the right to play their Ligue 1 fixture against Auxerre at a later date so as to not jeopardise their chances against Olympiacos in the Champions League.

Laurent Blanc’s side had been left facing a packed February, playing games every three days for the duration of the month. Indeed, they were scheduled to play three times in nine days leading up to their Champions League clash, leaving Blanc to drop a hint that his side may be tempted to play their CFA – essentially a totally second string side – in the Coupe de la Ligue semi-final against Lorient, which is pencilled in for next week.

With this threat in mind, and considering the precedent that was set when Olympique de Marseille were able to postpone a Championnat match against Sochaux prior to a crucial fixture against Real Madrid, the LFP have bowed to the French champions’ demands.

Frederic Thiriez welcomed the decision as “sensible”, noting in a statement to the press: “Auxerre have supported the application of Bordeaux and the broadcasters have understood. The schedule must be adapted when required.”

Olympique Lyonnais also continue to represent France in the Champions League, though Claude Puel’s side have had a considerably easier month due to early exits in both domestic cup competitions.
